What is a smart home?
A smart home is a networked system that connects all electronic devices in your apartment or house so that you can automate it in various ways to make your life more enjoyable. It all started with smartphones, today you can use them to control heating, cooling, ventilation, shading, security, lighting, consumer electronics and household appliances.
The individual elements communicate with the central unit and with each other to create intelligent scenarios. These are programmed, sequential events that occur, for example, when you get up in the morning or when you come home from work. There are many things that are easy to forget - lights on or appliances on. Now open an app on your phone (e.g. Smart Life) and you will immediately have an overview of your home - which devices are switched on, which lights are on, how many degrees it is at home, or you can use sensors and the Camera see your home is fine.
What are the key benefits of a smart home?
- Controlling it with your smartphone or voice (thanks to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant) is really easy - for example, you can turn off all the lights in the house with a few swipe gestures on the display.
- Creating automatic scenarios for different events will make your life easier. They turn on the lights when you get home from work, turn on the appliances in the morning just before the alarm goes off, and let your kitchen smell of fresh coffee when you step into it.
- You have a secure home and visibility wherever you are. No need to worry about turning anything off, just look at your phone and you're safe. Motion-sensitive cameras alert you directly on your mobile phone or directly alert the police (or the fire brigade if triggered by smoke, heat or gas sensors). If you're away from home for an extended period of time on vacation, your smart home can simply turn random lights or appliances on and off to make it seem like you're home and not let uninvited guests feel the slightest urge.
- Your household expenses will be reduced. For example, programmable WiFi thermostats or radiator heads regulate the temperature in individual rooms depending on the time of day or need. You then maintain a lower temperature in your absence.
A smart home is easy to set up yourself, even without renovation or complicated installations and wiring.
